Throwback: Our Lead Valuer Adam Schoon’s Memorable £25,000 Valuation on BBC’s Antiques Roadshow

Every now and then, a moment from television’s past reminds us why we fell in love with antiques in the first place — and one such highlight comes from 2019, when our Lead Valuer and Partner, Adam Schoon, appeared on the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow in a segment that has since become a fan favourite.

Originally filmed at the stunning Salisbury Cathedral, the episode featured a guest who brought in two charming hand-drawn animation cels from the beloved children’s cartoon Roobarb. The drawings, dating back to the early 1980s, were acquired during the guest’s time as a runner on the show, working alongside the legendary director Bob Godfrey.

In the moment captured on screen — and recently revisited by The Mirror — Adam examined the artwork with delight, revealing that each drawing could be valued at around £500. When the guest casually mentioned he had about 50 pieces in total, Adam’s eyes widened, and he estimated the full collection could be worth as much as £25,000.

Clearly taken aback, the guest reacted with a jubilant “Fantastic, wow!” — to which Adam grinned and famously replied: “Well done, you lucky thing!”

At Hobson & Schoon, we look back on this moment with great pride. Adam’s deep knowledge, passion, and instinct for uncovering the hidden stories behind objects continue to inspire both collectors and newcomers alike. His work on the Antiques Roadshow reflects the same commitment we bring to every client interaction — whether on national television or in a private consultation.
